My View of the Grocery Store...

I have discovered that I have a
love/hate relationship with the grocery store...

They have everything ~

I love that I can go and get anything and everything I need - isle after isle!

And not only do they have food, but toiletries, laundry detergent, postage stamps and much more!

I hate that I can go and get anything and everything I want - isle after isle of junk... chips, cookies, candy, ice cream... it's all there... and it's oh so very tempting.

Don't even get me started on the fact that the junk food is cheaper than the healthy food... I'll just stop there!

Did you know you can even buy gift cards? Now that's tempting!

I've heard of women going "grocery" shopping, buying a gift card (for them self) and then going on a shopping spree!

It's actually not a bad idea... because what husband actually looks at the grocery receipt?

A helpful smile in every isle ~

I love that my HyVee has friendly employees!

They always ask if I need help or stop and chit-chat as I select my apples or broccoli bunch.

Such nice people...

I hate that I often encounter rude shoppers!

They hog the isle - turn their cart so you can't squeeze by and have to wait while they read the entire ingredient label.

And if you excuse yourself to get by them, they act as if you are such a bother...

Guess what! - It's not your personal grocery store! - I shop here too!

And what's worse is when you're going opposite directions and meet them down every isle...

It makes for an extended - frustrating - shopping experience!

May I have a map please? ~

I love that I always go to the same store...

I know where everything is...

I know the employees...

There are no surprises...

I am a creature of habit.

I hate it when I have to stop in at a different store.

It is like entering a foreign land...

I feel out of place...

I can't find anything...

I go round and round... for a long time... looking and looking...

It's tiring.

Coupons ~

I love it when I intentionally look for coupons and actually use them!

That's less money spent and more money in our bank account!

I like that! And so does the husband!

I hate it when I don't take the time to look for coupons...

And the lady in the check out line in front of me just saved $78!

People watching ~

One shopping experience I was near the pharmacy and overheard an older couple talking about which throat lozenges to get. The husband was waiting patiently while the wife examined each package carefully. When she finally chose one the husband said, "Those are sure to get you yodeling again, Dear!"

I busted out laughing right next to them! So precious!

Another shopping experience I overheard an older man on the next isle over say, "I'm not goin' to chase you!" Then a woman said, "I'm just goin' to look at somethin'." Then the man piped up and said (quite loudly!), "D@#&-it! I'm NOT chasin' you! Get back here!" And she says, "Oh, I'm comin'!" Turns out the wife was on a motorized wheel chair and the husband was having a hard time keeping up with her - obviously not too happy about it.

I busted out laughing! Never did see them, just had a hilarious vision in my mind.

My precious time ~

I love it when I'm able to go shopping when the store empty... And without kids is always a plus too.

Early in the morning or late at night is the best time to go.... No one is around to get in my way.

I can be in and out of there in no time!

I hate it when I have to go during a busy time...

The weekend is the worst... There are way too many people!

It takes entirely too long to get the job done... It makes me exhausted and frazzled.

And if I have to take the kids along... Lets just say I'm done for the day!

Where is the maid? ~

I love a fully stocked fridge and pantry!

How nice to be able to have choices of what to cook for dinner, there are snacks for the kids and everyone is happy.

I hate putting the groceries away!

Lugging the bags in from the car...

The fridge door hanging open for 10 minutes as I must first clean out the moldy leftovers that no one will eat...

Which then creates dishes to be washed.

It's a whole ordeal that I wish I had a maid to do...

Or... the kids! Maybe I could add it to their chore chart...

Oh how I long for the day I can hand over my grocery list and send the kids off to the store for me.

But not today...

Today I will continue...

To love it...

And hate it...

All at the same time...

Cherishing these moments

As I think ahead to the weeks to come...

I realize that the school year is just about over.

The half day Kindergarten schedule will soon cease...

And next year my baby will be at school all day.

God is preparing me now for what is to come...

But I'm reminding myself to cherish these moments.

The moments that Gavin and I still have together...

At this stage of life... where we are... at this moment...

Never again will life be like it is right now...

(That's an obvious statement, isn't it?)

Here's a small glimpse of our morning together.

Ate some breakfast...

Took Ashlyn to school...

Played a little Xbox...

Took a trip to Michaels... (I 'needed' some craft supplies)

He created a masterpiece...

While I worked on our new chore chart I'm implementing into our schedule...

Made some lunch... (egg salad = yum)

Then off to school...

Nothing out of the ordinary, yet still very special...

Another memorable morning with my little man!

Friday Funnies...

It was Girl Scout cookie time (2 years ago) and I told Ashlyn that we needed to go by her troop leader's house to pick up the cookies that she had sold.

Ashlyn got very quiet and with wide eyes said, "Cathy made ALL of those cookies?!?!"

I cracked up!

Can you even imagine?

Gavin loves it when I scratch his back with my finger nails. He asks me all of the time!

One day we were sitting at the computer together...

And I, of course, was scratching his back.

He shivered and said, "Mom! You're giving me FROSTY BUMPS!'

Wow! What a great description!

Who made up goose bumps anyway?

And what does that even mean?

I don't know what it feels like to be a goose.

But I do know what it feels like to be FROSTY!!!

Charity:Water

Can you imagine a day without water?

How would you feel if you couldn't provide clean water for your children to drink?

Today I have a challenge for you...

To help give clean, safe drinking water to children like these...

I want these children to have clean water...

I know you do too...

You can make a difference!

A contribution of any amount, partnered with others, can provide clean, safe drinking water for those that are less fortunate.

I was challenged by Meg and made a donation today.

Please leave me comment if you give a donation.

Batter up!

Gavin has been waiting...

He's been hitting...

He's been catching...

Until last night...

He had his first practice!

My little man is in the middle

Get that ball boy! Yay!

My little bobble head!

Hit a homer honey!

And here are some of his biggest fans!

T-ball was boring...

Coach pitch will be much more fun!

Gavin had a BLAST!
